Please join the Australian Centre for Federalism for our inaugural Brazil Update! Co-sponsored by The Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS), the Brazil Update will be a 60-minute live conversation with leading election and party experts on Brazil.

We will present and discuss the outcomes of Brazil’s recent presidential elections that conclude on the 30th of October.

A panel of expert guests, moderated by Associate Professor Tracy B Fenwick, will be discussing a range of issues including the quality of the elections, the future of Brazilian democracy, key policy priorities to guarantee democracy stability, and how the future president will manage congress and a large fragmented legislative coalition. The roundtable debate will be followed by a 20-minute Q&A from the audience to our guests.

Associate Professor Tracy Beck Fenwick

Tracy Beck Fenwick is an Associate Professor of political science at the ANU, and Director of the Australian Centre for Federalism. She is the author of the book “Avoiding Governors: Federalism, Democracy, and Poverty Alleviation in Brazil and Argentina” (University of Notre Dame Press).

Professor Oswaldo Amaral

Oswaldo Amaral is a professor of political science at the University of Campinas, Brazil, and Director of the Centre of Public Opinion Studies (CESOP). He is the author of the book “Transforming the Internal Party Organization of the PT from 1995-2009 (Alameda Press)

Dr. Thiago Nascimento da Silva 

Thiago Nascimento is a Lecturer of political science at the ANU. In his recent published research, Thiago examines the consequences of coalition governments on voter behaviour and party competition, and the role of the opposition on coalition governance.
